French Toast
You
can't make a good French Toast with bad bread. This
decadent breakfast dish is best made with
Challah, but a nice dense loaf of French bread will
also work. Fresh butter and real maple syrup ONLY. This
recipe will make enough batter for 8-10 slices of bread.
3 eggs
2 Tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
dash ground nutmeg
½ teaspoon vanilla
1 cup milk
1 small loaf Challah (or French bread)
Vegetable oil for frying (I use canola)
Butter & Maple Syrup, to accompany
In deep bowl place eggs, sugar, spices and vanilla. Whip
with wire whisk. Add milk, stir to mix. Heat large
skillet and coat bottom with oil for frying. Cut bread
into 1" thick slices. Dip each slice of bread into
batter, turning several times to coat. Fill bottom of
skillet with battered bread slices and fry until brown.
Turn, and fry the other side until brown. Serve hot with
warm maple syrup and butter.
Serves 4 or 6.
