Delaney's Bakery | Willits KOA
Saturday | 14 October 2000 | Willits, California:
Matt headed back to Portland this morning - he had been on a two-week trip -
and we headed south along Highway 101. We stopped by the post office to
pick-up an Oregon voter’s pamphlet, (two people to lift and $3.20 to post)
which we sent to Lisa (in college in Washington, DC) and then left Bandon
around 8:30 a.m., not stopping until we were in Brookings. Through the fog,
we found a very cute and friendly bakery for my annual maple bar, Delaney's Bakery. (Obviously named for our niece?)

Delaney has her donut shop decorated with her personal
collection of cookie jars! Wall-to-wall and floor-to-ceiling cookie jars! She
also has a clock with donuts as numbers and a sign made with donuts reading:
2000 - Year of the Donut. Besides the maple bar, we also thought it was the year
of the lemon cream cheese coffee cake and year of the cinnamon roll with
walnuts.
Driving further south on 101, we were able to not lose any of our fruits or
veggies at the California border crossing produce police. He did want to look at
my citrus, but was not at all impressed as he let me keep it all this time. The
fog was clearing a bit and we saw hundreds of elk in the Redwoods. Just before
Eureka, we pulled into a beach wayside and put up the satellite dish to watch
the first half of the Ducks at USC game on ABC. The Ducks were up by 7 at the
half, so we cranked the dish down and took off again, stopping about 90 minutes
later at a river wayside, repeated the process to see the final few moments,
with the Ducks handily beating the Trojans 28-17.
We didn't stop until after 5:30, when we pulled into the KOA in Willits,
California. A very, very long day of driving for DT, but we want to get to
Merced tomorrow night. The KOA has a petting zoo and mini-golf!
The next few days will be spent with family... so continue on to our next
travel day
