San Diego Zoo
Monday | 14 February 2000 | San Diego, California:
Wow! We had a wonderful Valentines’ Day! Not only were we together – we saw
the baby panda at the
San Diego Zoo! Today was the first time either of us had seen a panda –
and we saw THREE. We saw the daddy, mommy and baby.

Bui Yun – Panda Mom
I am sorry to not get a photo of the baby – but she was very
shy! DT was able to get several shots of her with his gigantic telephoto
lens. All weekend, the crowds at the Zoo were hours long, but today we were
able to walk right up and watch the pandas for a quite a long time before
they made everyone “move alongâ€. Then we would just walk back through the
line. We visited the pandas two different times during the day – but there
didn’t seem to be much difference – they stayed in one area all day,
sleeping, moving a few feet and sleeping again. DT and I stayed at the Zoo
all day. It was not crowded, and though it did not rain, the day was mostly
cloudy and warm. Here are a few more shots of animals we were able to see
today.

Orangutan

Camel

Lion

Black Rhino
The San Diego Zoo is just wonderful – this is my second time
to the Zoo and hopefully not the last! At about 3:30, we left the park and
toured around the Old Town area of San Diego – “The Birthplace of
Californiaâ€. In five days we have really been busy – the golf tournament,
Wild Animal Park, Cabrillo national Monument, Coronado, Gas Lamp District,
San Diego Zoo and the pandas and Old Town. Tonight we will stay in. I am
making a gourmet Valentine dinner for my sweetheart. Tomorrow we pack it up
and drive to Palm Springs.
