Red Bluff RV Park
Thursday | 1 February 2001 | Red Bluff, California:
A very uneventful day. (That is good.) We left home before 9 a.m. and drove
south on I-5. Even though Snickers is with us, we only stopped 3 times all day
and we drove 454 miles! (Oops! I meant to write: DT drove 454 miles.) It was
very cold all day and we had the furnace roaring. Just as it was getting dark,
we pulled into the oh-so-lovely Red Bluff RV Park, conveniently located just off
the freeway. A nice dinner (prepared ahead of time) of baked potato gratin,
tossed salad and garlic bread - eaten in front of the tube watching the very
exciting Duke v. UNC game on the satellite.

Friday | 2 February 2001 | Bakersfield, California: Shabbat
Shalom from near Bakersfield, California. Our day did NOT look to be an
uneventful day as the BC2 was dead in the morning. I have no idea what I left
on, left open... whatever... but the battery had drained! Luckily, in every
campground there are row upon row of friendly men with all sorts of tools and
jumper cables. A retired veterinarian from Mt. Vernon, Washington got the BCBC
up and running and we left Red Bluff about 30 minutes behind schedule.
The rest of the day was thankfully uneventful. It was not as cold today;
actual sun (bright orb in sky unknown to Oregonians in the winter) came through
the windows to warm us up. We are listening to John Glenn read his book "A
Memoir". I wasn't very excited about it, but chose it at the new rental place
near Murrayhill, thinking DT would really enjoy it after our recent visit to
NASA. I am hooked! Glenn is so interesting and his story is fascinating! He had
me laughing and crying all afternoon. I feel bad, leaving him orbiting the earth
in the Mercury Rocket, Friendship 7, overnight while we enjoy a quiet
evening here outside of Bakersfield. Tonight we are dining on another meal I
made at home ahead of time: spinach lasagna, tomato salad, Challah and nice
wines. I have to fuel my driver! Tomorrow we have 250 miles to Las Vegas!
Ahem... excuse me... this is Snickers speaking. I hate
going in the camper. But I hate being away from the people I own more... so I
suffer through these trips. The only good thing (besides being with my favorite
people) is that the Alpha Male gives me lots of doggie biscuits, and at about
daybreak I sneak up on their bed for a few minutes. A few times a day, we stop
at a freeway rest stop and I am lead around on a leash and the lady expects me
to "go baffroom" in disgusting areas where other people owned by strange dogs do
not clean-up after their dogs. Some dogs should choose better people. That's all
for now.
