Biba Restaurant
Thursday | 3 May 2001 | Sacramento, California:
We woke early and were on the road by 9 a.m. It was such an ordeal to leave
the campground... with a steep, winding one-lane road and hairpin turns, we
realized why people are living at the park - they are afraid to leave! To
make for an easier exit, I drove ahead in the BC2, and was able to snap this
photo for your amusement:

Leaving Carmel
We headed north on Highway 1 and then went east on 156 to
152 towards I-5. On the way we stopped at a huge fruit stand and loaded up
on pistachios for Steve B. and a few fresh treats for ourselves. We drove
through mile after mile of artichokes, garlic, strawberry and lettuce
fields. For lunch we stopped at San Luis Reservoir and had a picnic.
But, we just had a light snack because tonight we had reservations at
Biba. We met Steve and Gina at 7 p.m. and had a wonderful evening,
enjoying fabulous food, wine and conversation. For appetizers, Gina had
seafood cakes; DT and Steve shared calamari frita. Then Gina had a
tri-colored salad with bitter greens, I had fresh buffalo mozzarella with
roasted peppers and basil, DT and Steve had spinach salads. For our entrees:
Gina and DT had the pasta special - spaghetti with lobster, Steve had
ravioli stuffed with cheese and pancetta and I had linguini with cubed
potatoes, green beans and pesto. Everything at Biba was perfect and
delicious. We had Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio and Peppoli. We shared two
decadent chocolate desserts. Steve and Gina are ready to close on a new home
in the country, and they are very excited about their new venture. As usual,
it was wonderful to see them again - after all it had been a week since we
had seen Steve - and we laughed and had a really fun evening.
