Hilton Head Island Motorcoach Resort

Saturday - 26 October 2002: Hilton Head Island, South Carolina - We are just traveling from one island to another, aren't we? The islands are very nice here... assuming you like mosquitoes and bad hair days. The weather continues to be a bother - off and on warm rain. Our drive this morning was quite uneventful.  The big excitement of the morning was fetching Snickers from the kennel. He was so happy to see me and the vet wasn't quite ready to give him back. Seems those huntin' dawgs are purty sweet. The vet also surprised me - I arrived at the clinic totally decked-out in yellow and green, GO DUCK earrings, pin, Big Green duck call around my neck, etc., on and on, and he asked immediately about the Ducks and talked about how Joey Harrington was doing with the Lions, and Onterrio Smith's chances at the Heisman!

But the Ducks were not to win today. The only good thing about the loss is the dreaded tradition of eating Chili Cheese Fritos before the game can finally be put to bed. Never again will I have to eat this doomed (and heart-burn-inducing) snack. We watched the game at Casey's Sports & Lung Cancer Bar. Actually, as sports bars go, Casey's is very nice. As clean air goes, Casey's is very bad. Casey's is also the winner of the "best wings so-far-on-the-trip" contest. I spoke with Mary several times from Autzen, but she was not so cheery. Lisa phoned from a pub crawl (hey, it was for charity!) to get the score. My Dad phoned during the 4th quarter to commiserate. Ducks lost to USC 44-33. Oh, and it was to the "other" USC - not the University of South Carolina.

We were the only Duck fans in the place, but did have 3 of the 50 TV's.

Goldie is parked at a very fancy (oxymoron) RV Resort - Hilton Head Island Motorcoach Resort. The campsites are actually privately owned and rented to low-life like us when the owners are absent. (According to the bulletin board, re-sales go from $19,000 to $43,000.) Each site at Hilton Head Island Motorcoach Resort has all the usual life-lines, plus phone and fabulous patios and built-in seating with picnic tables. There are several pools, hot tubs, lakes and tennis courts. This "resort" accepts motor-coaches ONLY and they must be less than 10 years old. Well, well.
