Navarre Beach CampgroundThursday - 7 November 2002: Navarre, Florida -
Today was going to be another long driving day, so we were out of the
campground by 9 a.m. We needed diesel and air in our tires. Diesel was no
problem, but when DT tried to put air in the front tires, more air came out
than went in. Luckily I still have the way with the truckers and found a
friendly short-hauler to help us out. Seems they didn't have the proper
valve adapter for Goldie's tires. He directed us down the street to a tire
place... who directed us down the street to another tire place. Here our
tires were correctly filled by a tire professional. The cost, according to a
sign on the wall, was fifty cents - but the guy said "no charge". DT gave
him a nice tip and we were safely on our way up Highway 41, and then turned
west on 98.
It was a beautiful drive, and we enjoyed sunny weather along the shore of
the Gulf of Mexico, through historic towns and fishing villages. This area
provides 90% of Florida's oysters. Reading church signs today, we learned,
"To belittle is to be little", and "A little kneeling will keep you in good
standing."
At about 3:00 (we THINK 3:00, as we THINK we changed back to the
Central Time Zone) we pulled into a campground on the water. We are camped at Navarre Beach Campground, about 40 miles east of Pensacola.
Beautiful white sand beach and a pier. One problem: Snickers is not allowed to
set food in the sand. Dogs are not allowed on any beach on the Gulf. What kind
of sucky Gulf is this? Not to worry, Our Boy was quite popular on the pier at
cocktail hour. Campers gather at the end of the dock, cocktail in hand, to watch
the sun set. Nice tradition. Snickers was joined by his new friend and next door
neighbor, Ralph - a female Bassett. They watched the sunset together.

A beautiful sunset tonight
Since I am still feeling a bit poorly with a sore throat and
cough, we stayed home again tonight. Leftovers! It was 72 degrees here
today, but it is chilly tonight and we have our little space heater up and
running - and we are wearing sweats!
