Thursday - 21 November 2002: Tucson, Arizona
- The Trees beat the Minutemen by one point last night. It was a very good
game. The X-Men are very skilled and made the A-10 look GOOD! I just love
David West. (Maybe you remember when I met him in March at the Philadelphia
airport after they had won the A-10 Tournament? West had a good laugh about
me flying all the way across the country to watch GW, since GW lost in the
first game on the first day of the tournament.) Anyway, he is a nice boy - a
senior - and I look forward to another exciting year of A-10 hoops.
But first, The Ducks. While I watched The X-Men last night, DT was on-line
playing a "what if" game. If this team beats this team and that team beats
that team and The Ducks beat The Beavers and there is a total alignment of
the planets, The Ducks will go to Bowl Game A. If this happens and that
happens, The Ducks will go to Bowl Game B. If none of these things happen,
The Ducks will not go to a Bowl game and we can concentrate on college
basketball. It was painful.
The weather was just beautiful today - sunny and 80 degrees! This
morning, DT spent several hours organizing all his photos from the trip (so
far) and placing them in a nice photo album we had purchased in Our Nation's
Capital. I went to the supermarket and did a few errands.
Later, DT and I headed to the Visitor Center to see what was up these days
in Tucson - we had spent a week here 11 years ago with Lisa. After gathering
a few brochures and city guides, we had a nice lunch at a little Mexican
place in the plaza at the Visitor Center. Then we did a drive-through tour
of the University of Arizona.
We had planned to walk around in the Historic 4th Street area, but it didn't
look very historic at all and the "fantastic" shops looked most unappealing,
so we went downtown to the
Art
Museum and walked through the Artisans area. Beautiful, beautiful,
beautiful. (Didn't buy a thing, spent a fortune in my mind.) Today, walking
through the originally-walled area of Tucson, I photographed, for your
pleasure, a study of blue doors and windows:

Tomorrow the city is hosting a huge craft fair and the
artists were busy setting up their booths in the plaza. We may have to go
back! We also visited the plaza adjacent to the Art Museum, which houses the
Pima County Courthouse. The Pima County Courthouse has the
most beautiful mosaic dome.

Later in the afternoon, back at the campground, we decided
to walk over to Camping World. I was so excited because I
had a coupon for a free 4-pack of toilet tissue if I spent $25 at Camping
World! (Do the things that thrill me confuse you?) DT (don't laugh) was
worried that we would not be able to spend $25 in Camping World because,
except for toilet tissue, we really didn't NEED a thing from The World.
Isn't that just hilarious??? As if! As long as we were walking past dozens
of brand-new RVs on display on our way to The World, we just went in a few.
Wow. Things have really changed in three years! Coaches are so much more
stream-line. We were only looking at top-end coaches, but things have
improved. Unfortunately, they still have the same old floor plans. Sofa and
one recliner. Guess I am gong to have to help out the RV industry with a few
ideas of my own. The prices have not climbed very much in the past three
years. At least they are making coaches shorter - but with more slide rooms.
Three slide rooms seem to be the norm for the high-end motor homes. You
could dance in a few we toured today. After looking at 10 coaches, confusion
starts to set-in and you can't remember which one had the big oven and which
one had the computer desk... so you just roam in and out of coaches until
finally a salesman comes to "help" and you say you are "just looking" and
escape to Camping World.
At The World, DT found a new hose coupler, and a new patio table. I found a
lighted magnifying glass (for reading maps). Our coupon was for one-ply
toilet paper, so we didn't even use it! Rats!
We could not find a nearby place for dinner. We went down the road to a
promising-looking joint, but when we saw the sign on the door advertising
"Lingerie Show Thursday Night", we thought better of our decision and went
driving around, aimlessly looking for food. We only found restaurants with
drive-through windows, so we went home and I made DT an omelet. We pored
over RV brochures until we again became dizzy and called it a night.
