Yuma
Tuesday - 26 November 2002: Yuma, Arizona -
We had a very quiet morning here at the campground with Mom and Dad. Mom
likes to go down to the Club House and play cards with the gals, but she
hung with us today. We met a guy who told us about his fabulous new RV - it
has a computer desk and, as he put it, "four friggin TVs", so we decided to
go have a look. (At the dealership, not actually go to this guys camper -
because he mentioned something about a big dog.) The five of us (Snickers
came along) piled into the BC2 and drove into Yuma and stopped to look at
the Alfa See Ya. (That is the name of the RV.) It is really different -
absolutely unlike any RV we have ever seen. (We are not buying one.) First
of all, it has really tall ceilings because the air conditioners that are
usually on the roof, are built into the basement of the coach. The ceiling
is so tall, they have a ceiling fan! DT can barely reach the ceiling. They
have a TV in the front of the coach, in the middle, in the bedroom and one
(outside, in the basement) for viewing from your patio when camped. Because
of this design, the motorhome is still 12 feet tall, same as Goldie, but it
looks SO MUCH taller, because the top 6-8 inches of Goldie is roof-mounted
air conditioners. The design allows for huge, tall windows giving the
interior a very spacious feeling. I liked the kitchen and the huge pantry,
but the workmanship wasn't even as nice as Goldie's and I am just TOO SHORT
to use this motorhome. I couldn't reach half of the cupboards! The See Ya is
a neat camper - but not for us. (Kareem Abdul Jabaar would love this coach.)
After looking through a few different motorhomes and still not finding
anything that tickled our fancy, we went to The Super Wal-Mart to finish-up
our Thanksgiving food shopping. In the afternoon, I baked a large pan of
pecan sticky buns - with the lovely pecans from Stahmann Pecan Farms.

Just trying to get our stomachs prepared for the feast on
Thursday. (Pretty amazing what a girl can produce in a 6-foot-long RV
kitchen, ain't it?)
For dinner, we went into Yuma to a new brew pub, the Monarch's Rest. The
owner has imported tables from English pubs and pews from English churches
for the decor of the pub. It is a very, very nice looking restaurant - with
a full bar, not smoky, and on the main street downtown. DT and I had the
fish and chips. Mom and Dad had dinner entrees. Mom had pecan-crusted
chicken and Dad had a pasta dish with chicken in a white wine sauce. Several
hand crafted brews were sampled. The menu is incredibly non-pub like and
very diverse. (NOTE: This restaurant has already closed.) We are having a
little lightning tonight over the skies of Yuma, but no thunder, so Snickers
isn't aware of the terror lurking above and is snoring in his bed.
