Snickers on the continental divide in Wyoming, on the shore of the
Mississippi
and on the ferry from Ocracoke Island in North Carolina
TRIP HIGHLIGHTS: We left home with the goal of
getting to DC for Lisa's last college Parent's Weekend. On the way we stopped in
Chicago to see Red and his family; drove up to the upper peninsula of Michigan
to revisit Dave's boyhood home and made a detour in Purdue to see Chris. Our
visit with Lisa was busy and fun, but marred by the sniper shootings in the
area. After leaving DC, we didn't really have another appointment, so took more
time as we drove the perimeter of the southern US, stopping in the Outer Banks,
Disneyworld, New Orleans (pre-Katrina), southern plantations and many beaches.
This was our first "Big Trip" in our RV. We did a lot of driving and not too
much stopping in our early days! Duck football games took up most Saturdays. Our
goal was to watch the Ducks win and sample chicken wings in sports bars across
the country. Well, we did find some delicious wings in Pensacola - but the Ducks
didn't fare very well on their football schedule. We had too many
thunder/lightning storms. Snickers was absolutely terrified of these storms and
he was miserable... so we were too. After this trip, Snickers didn't travel with
us on every adventure.
