American Kazoo Company | Allentown Arts Festival
Saturday - 12 June 2004 - Niagara Falls, New York:
Just in case you have forgotten, a quick geography lesson: Lake Superior,
Lake Michigan, Lake Huron and Lake Erie all drain into the 35-mile long
Niagara River, flow over Niagara Falls, into Lake Ontario and then out the
Saint Lawrence Seaway into the Atlantic Ocean.

The Great Lakes
Anyway, can you believe we are still here? The weather is so nice, and we
still have so much to see and do here! Tom stopped by
around 9 o'clock this morning to give us his bill. It was $10 - for a gallon
of coolant DT wanted for the Hydro-Hot. Country Coach will take care of
everything else. Such a deal! After a leisurely morning, we drove south,
over Grand Island, and followed the scenic route to
Eden, New York. Eden is famous for two things - sweet corn and the
Kazoo. The corn was only about a foot high, so we visited the
American Kazoo Company!

DT in Eden
The entire town of Eden was very busy as it was the annual reunion
weekend. Every year all the high school grads return, and there was a
city-wide yard sale to celebrate. Tables piled with "stuff" were set-up in
front of every home and business along Main Street. I simply did not
understand why (even when it was explained to me) anyone would hold a yard
sale to celebrate a high school reunion. We enjoyed the Kazoo
Factory, though it was teeny-tiny. The same machinery from the early 1900s
is still in use today! The Duck Fight Song sounds pretty good on a Kazoo. Driving in and out of Eden, we did see miles and miles of corn fields and
were told by the locals to come back in August for the Corn Festival.
I didn't hear anything about a concurrent yard sale.
After our stop in Eden, we drove north to Buffalo and had a look at the
downtown. (The Anchor Bar is not downtown.) We had a nice lunch at the Founding Fathers Pub, 75 Edward Street, (716) 855-8944, a very interesting place in a
historic brick building. The Founding Fathers Pub has a theme - U.S. Presidents. All the
Presidents, from George to George, are represented. The walls are filled,
from floor to ceiling with photos, painting, magazine covers, and assorted
memorabilia. Simply amazing decor and a decent sandwich.
Our waitress at the Dockside last night had told about us the
Allentown Arts Festival in Buffalo today. The art fair was blocks
long, and every person in town seemed to be there. We enjoyed looking at the
booths full of arts and crafts. The only other booths allowed were food
vendors, so we also enjoyed a cannoli. In the Allentown area of Buffalo, we
saw the mansion where Theodore Roosevelt was sworn-in after
President McKinley was assassinated during the Pan-American
Exposition in 1901. There is history everywhere in America!
