Bodie Ghost Town

Wednesday - 12 October 2005: Bodie State Historical Site is a very intact ghost town. Gold was discovered here in 1859 by Waterman S. Body (spelling has changed). By 1879 Bodie had a population of around 10,000 and was known as a haven for wickedness and "the worst climate out of doors." More than 100 million dollars of gold was mined at Bodie.

RV NOTES: Body Ghost Town is off Highway 395 (between Mono Lake and Bridgeport). The exit is well-marked. A few miles up the road is a large turn-out. It is advised (by The Camping Journal) to leave your RV here and take the unpaved road in your tow vehicle. Please see the Body State Historical Site website for more information.
