Yosemite National Park
Monday - 23 May 2005 - Groveland, California:
After our tours of Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks, we spent a few
days visiting family in Merced and then drove up to DT's Favorite Place in
The World,
Yosemite National Park. Now, as you all know, I am crazy for My Husband
and think he is the Smartest Man on the Planet (except he never reads this
website!), but his Favorite Place in The World seemed like a Los Angeles
freeway today! We were both surprised, as the park was flooded and closed
several days last week, it is Monday, but it was like visiting a suburban
mall today instead of a National Park.
No matter. If you are looking "up" instead of at traffic and tourists,
Yosemite is simply magnificent. Here are photos of some of her most famous
spots.

Half Dome We couldn't even find a place to park to buy postcards! This
is how crazy was the parking in Yosemite today. (Sorry Post Card Receivers.)
To make matters worse, due to all the flooding and road wash-outs, crews
were repaving and moving earth every which-way, and there were traffic
tie-ups everywhere. As I said above, LA Freeways in Our National Parks. Not
a totally awe-inspiring day. We dipped into a few campgrounds to see
if our RV would fit and of the thousands of campsites available, we found a
total of 8 that would hold our rig and one where we could maybe possibly
hook into our satellite. The push is on to forbid all overnight camping in
Yosemite. The push is on to forbid all personal automobiles in Yosemite. I
vote YES on all counts.
Back at our campsite, we enjoyed a gourmet Greek dinner and then took a
walk. On our walk we came upon two German girls (brain and spinal O.R.
nurses) who needed a campsite for the night and a garage as they had a flat
tire. The office was closed, they were exhausted, and starving - so the
maintenance guy pointed them to a tent site and we fed the girls our left-overs.
Our RV is a palace to tent campers, and it always fun to cook for hungry
people. Not sure what a German thought of Americans serving Greek food in a
camper in California... but, we no longer have left-overs.
