The Orange Grove RV Park
Tuesday | 24 April 2007 | Bakersfield, California: Another driving day.
Well, to be honest, another driving afternoon. We spent yesterday and this
morning with family before driving around 200 miles this afternoon, south on Highway 99,
(listening to our fabulous
Water for Elephants )
to Bakersfield, where we are camped for the night at one of
our usual stop-over sites -
The Orange Grove RV Park. This park is actually in
an orange grove! I am not a farmer, but I would suggest they
have removed every-other row of fruit trees and put in RV
sites. When the oranges are ripe, they are free for the
taking, so that is always fun.

Checking-in at The Orange Grove
No such luck in April, however - especially since the fruit
was slim anyway due to the terrible freeze this winter.
There was a line of RVs coming in when we checked-in just
after 4 pm. (It was 82 degrees!) They herded-in their weary
customers and situated us in sites one after the other. Our
entire row is filled with motorhomes towing small cars. Not
one car is unattached - a sure sign that everyone in this
row is overnighting here and will be gone in the morning.
Some are going south; most are going north.
