Pre's Trail
Tuesday | 15 May 2007 | Eugene,
Oregon: We were up early and headed over to work out on
Pre's Trails at
Alton Baker Park. (DT ran, I walked.) It was
a beautiful, warm morning and I was able to snap a few great
photos for your enjoyment. Pre's Trail, named in honor of
the late University of
Oregon distance star, Steve Prefontaine, cover of 4 miles of
flat, soft bark-covered paths - perfect for running or
walking along the banks of the Willamette River. There is
plenty of parking for cars and RVs (if you don't go on a
sunny weekend).

There
is so much wildlife in the park - we even saw an Osprey
hovering between the mill race and the Willamette River
looking for a little breakfast. There are several brand-new
hatching of geese - adorable fluffy things - being carefully
guarded by anxious parents. Of course there are many ducks,
heron and river birds of all types at the park. The
rhododendrons were in bloom - everything was busting out all
over. There is a large dog park just behind Autzen Stadium,
so I was able to get my puppy fix on my walk along
Pre's Trail this morning.

At the last minute tonight,
we decided to go out to dinner and drove down to Marché
in the 5th Street Public Market.
Marché is a nice French bistro and we both had very good
meals, but our service was a bit lacking. Nevermind - my
beef tenderloin on a bed of potato and green garlic gratin
was divine! Marché is classy enough to offer champagne by
the glass. We love this restaurant because they use locally
grown, organically-raised meats and produce whenever
possible. Viva la Eugene!

We are going home for a bit and then head out on our Spring
RV Trip (Part Two). We will drive down the Pacific Coast and take
the Mail Boat up the Rogue River.
