Ocean Mesa at El Capitan RV Park | Santa Barbara
Monday | 1 January 2007 | Santa Barbara, California: DT and I wish
you all a very HAPPY NEW YEAR! We arrived here last night after spending the
past week with family in Merced. As is our custom (whether at home or away)
we stayed in and enjoyed our annual Fettuccini Alfred splurge and shared a
bottle of Clicquot. It was a fine feast. We have our Grand Dawg, Reese, with
us now and will eventually deposit him back to Lisa in Los Angeles in a few
days. So, we did sleep in just a bit this morning, after staying up until
12:01 this morning. People were partying hearty in our campground - big bon
fires blazing in several fire pits ringed with merry-makers - but at
midnight no one honked a horn, banged a pot, shot a gun or even yelped.
Little Reese curled up between us, happily snoozing with his temporary pack
of humans.
After
a windy night, we woke to gorgeous weather! Not a cloud in
the sky, no wind, and warm sun! What a fabulous way to
welcome the New Year! It was so warm, we enjoyed our coffee
and newspaper outside on our picnic table. Such luxury for
two Oregonians in January!
Later, I took Reese on a stroll through this just-opened RV park, snapping
photos for my review. It is a very nice park, with every amenity offered... but
still, $65???
Ocean
Mesa at El Capital RV Park
has great showers, laundry, pool, spa, hiking trails, full-service sites, a
small store, ATM, newspaper boxes and high-speed wireless internet. The
campsites are long and level with fire rings and really nice wooden picnic
tables. (It is rare to find fire rings in RV parks!) Sites above the pool area
have nice ocean views. They are accommodating, friendly and very dog-friendly -
providing a nice dog exercise area and convenient bags to clean up after your
favorite pooch.

After my walk and DT's run, we loaded Reese in the car and went to the beach
for another walk! There are several good beaches in the area and many are
popular with surfers. Always interesting to watch the surfers! After a
drive-by tour of the University of California at Santa Barbara
campus (very pretty, but totally dead as class is not in session) we went to
another
beach in Santa Barbara and then did the driving tour of Santa Barbara. We
did not think anything would be open, due to the holiday, but many business
and museums were doing business. Santa Barbara is very nice, clean, tasteful
and, I am going to assume, expensive.

Beach north of Santa Barbara - look at that sky!
But we had to get back to the bus so DT could watch college
football
all afternoon. The Rose Bowl, people! (I needlepointed.)
The afternoon slipped away, the sun set, and somehow college
football is still on the television. (I cooked dinner.) We
did enjoy a beautiful sunset tonight!

Sunset over the Pacific
For our evening meal, we enjoyed Mediterranean Lamb Loaf and a really good
tossed salad with avocado. College football is still on the television...
