Malibu Beach RV Park
Wednesday | 3 January 2007 | Malibu,
California: Another lazy morning. I am so sore from my graceful beach
landing yesterday (and pretty bruised) so did not sleep well. I woke at 4 am
and took a few Advil and was dozing well at 7 o'clock when Reese decided it
was time to get up. DT took Reese for his morning walk and we lingered
around the RV, drinking coffee and enjoying the views until it was time to
check-out at noon.

The weather, as you can see from the photos, was absolutely perfect. Warm
sun and no wind. We didn't want to leave, but we had more California coast
to explore. We drove only 49 miles south on Highway 1 and checked-into a
campsite at the
Malibu Beach RV Park. The RV park sits up above the sea and above the
highway. One thing the Oregon coast really has over Malibu beaches is that
our beaches are much more secluded. In Oregon, it would be rare to hear
freeway noise at the beach. Here, it is the norm. Of course, in Oregon, you
can't actually swim in the sea without risking your reproductive organs, but
you will only hear the sea - not traffic - while at the beach. In Malibu the
highway is right on the beach. Ugly and noisy.
After settling-in and meeting our neighbors - this is a very cramped
campground - we went for a drive in the Honda south for a few miles to see
the sights. But, there were no sights - just cramped houses built directly
on the highway, bumper-to-bumper traffic and pay-per-use beaches.
We headed back to Our Intrigue, enjoyed the sunset and listened to GW
basketball on the internet. We are camped less than 30 miles from Lisa
tonight - but she is working late all week, so we will probably not see her
until the weekend.

After
GW beat Fordham at the Smith Center, we left our Grand Dawg to rest while we
went in search of grilled fish. We had heard about a little beach shack from
our fellow-campers, so we headed to
Paradise Cove Cafe & Mobile Home Park! It wasn't the cleanest place we
have ever visited and it did seem strange to us to have to pay to park in a
parking lot owned by the restaurant... but we are little town people in the
Big City. The food was decent, the waiters were clean-cut Pepperdine
students and the place is right on the beach. (We think - it was totally
dark.) To say the portions were large, would be a disservice. Can you even
believe this order of $12.95 calamari? DT ate and ate and ate and chewed and
chewed and chewed, but the "after" photo looked pretty-much like the
"before" photo. He did discover, after thirty minutes work, the bottom of
the "glass" was filled with french fries... but he didn't dig deep enough to
sample a fried spud. I enjoyed a nice wedge salad and did not enjoy my
not-firm-and-somehow-mushy grilled halibut. DT also had a salad, with huge
shrimp. To the Cafe's credit they offered Santa Margarita Pinot Grigio - in
half and whole bottles. Gotta love that in a beach shack. Paradise Cove is a
local favorite and a great people-watching place and I bet the Mojito Shack
is hopping on a weekend afternoon.
