Bunz in La Quinta

Thursday | 18 January 2007 | Indio, California: After recovering from our morning of work and exercise, we went to try a new burger joint in La Quinta. Bunz was opened by a young girl who is a full-time college student. Can you even imagine this? Jaclyn Peña was born and raised in the food industry and her dad was once the La Quinta mayor. We heard Bunz burgers were the best in the Coachella Valley, so we wanted to give them a try.

Jaclyn wanted to serve a "country club quality burger in a fast-food environment". She has succeeded. Bunz has excellent and huge burgers and traditional sides - fries, onion rings, salad. Burgers are made with 1/2 pound of Certified Angus Beef. Huge! The most popular burger is the Baja Bunz, topped with cilantro, green onions, green chilies and pepper-jack cheese. The Baja Bunz is served on a jalapeno bun. It was perfectly spiced - hot, but not overly so. We also tried a Basic Bunz with cheese on a jalapeno bun. Both burgers were really very delicious, not too expensive and arrived promptly. Bunz also serves breakfast all day - cinnamon bunz, oatmeal, cinnamon swirl French toast, pancakes, breakfast sandwiches, and quesadillas. They are famous for their Breakfast Burrito - eggs, shredded beef, hash browns, pepper-jack cheese, chilies and onions rolled into a very stuffed tortilla. That will be our next field trip! The restaurant is open from 6 am to 3 pm only. Lines form.
