Dairy Day

Tuesday | 12 August 2008 | Neskowin, Oregon: We woke to wet foggy weather. Not chilly though, so we put on our sweats and drove to the beach and had a little exercise.

Later, we decided to make a day of it. Everyone hopped in the Honda and DT drove north - all the way to Tillamook on the scenic coastal route - before turning around and returning, on Highway 101, to our campground.

First stop was to the Pelican Pub & Brewery in Pacific City. We really like Pacific City - a great pub, a great beach with a massive rock formation just off-shore.

After lunch, we continued north to Tillamook where we stopped at two creameries. The first was Blue Heron French Cheese Company.

Blue Heron are famous for their brie and today we sampled their brie with black peppercorns. Never could I image such a simple, yet perfect, pairing. Just delicious.

Our next stop, the Tillamook Creamery, was just down the road. We took the self-guided tour and for the first time in a long time - they were actually making and packaging cheese! (The last few times we have been here, the factory has sat idle... though the gift shop was still open!) Of course, we had to sample the goods!

The sun was out for most of the afternoon, but as we reached our campground at 5p, it was still fogged-in. Oh, well, we were a bit beat and pretty much ready to call it a day. No dinner for us after our big lunch and ice creams (though I just had a kid cone!). Well, we do have a little of that peppercorn brie...

Until my next update, I remain, your creamy correspondent.
