Hotter than Ghana

Friday | 15 August 2008 | La Pine, Oregon: Yesterday we drove from the beach to Eugene, Oregon and stayed overnight - hubby had a few meetings to attend as he wraps-up the Olympic Trials. We made a stop to the Cummins Coach Care in Coburg, Oregon and they fixed our air conditioner in two minutes! Nothing wrong, it just hadn't been used in so long, the fan blade needed a little "push". Isn't that great? No $250 repair bill for once!

Today, just after noon we headed east, over the Cascade mountains to Central Oregon. We are camped about 20 miles south of Bend on Highway 97... and I mean practically on Highway 97.

Another record-breaking temperature day. Not the best day to be driving up the side of a mountain in a motorhome towing a car, I suppose... but a golf tournament awaits. We crossed the Cascades via Highway 58 - a beautiful beautiful beautiful drive. We stopped along-side the highway in a shady spot for lunch and again to take a photo of Diamond Peak over Odell Lake, and arrived in La Pine in time for the worst heat of the day. 100 degrees, but it's a dry heat.

Lucky us.

We are staying at the campground closest to the golf course where DT will play tomorrow. Unfortunately it is a private, members-only park, and we are not members. However, Cascade Meadow RV Resort allows non-members to stay if sites are available - for $30. (Or, we could take a tour and listen to a sales pitch to camp here free for three nights. We opted to pay the cash.) For our $30, they put us not only next to the highway, but next to the railroad track. Plus, every few minutes our power box pops the breaker and we are not even running an air conditioner!

Membership has its privileges.
